Over the years, FCL has developed unique collaborations between industry and academia partners that involved lots of aspects such as properties testing, combustion testing, performance reviews and technical guidance. The current and potential major industry collaborations in Qatar and USA include but not limited to the following areas: Synthetic fuels, lubricants, catalysts, engine tests, emission tests, fuel blends, reactors, gas production, gas processing technologies and optimization and trainings.

Recent projects with industry include the following:

Fuels and Lubricants testing with OryxGTL

In this project, GTL, conventional diesel samples, and engine oil samples for Bus demonstration were tested. The objectives of this research work with Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), are to perform detailed analysis and characterization of both the conventional and GTL fuels to be used in the demonstration run. Also, detailed analysis and characterization of lubricating oil sampled during oil change on the buses involved in the project were performed during the duration of the project.

Blended fuels preparation and testing with General Electric (GE):

24 binary blends of GTL-derived fuels with conventional fuels were prepared and properties were tested. The QNRF project is focused on GTL blended fuels derived from natural gas. As a part of this project it is required to gather information on physical and chemical properties of the blended fuels.

Jet A-1 fuel blends with Shell

GTL SPK fuel (obtained from Shell) and conventional Jet A-1were blended to satisfy ASTM D1655 & D7655 limits with Shell. Blends’ physical and chemical properties were tested for optimum values.
