FCL – Equipments

In this section brief description of the analytical equipment available are shown with the tests they perform. All lab equipment and all tests are done according to the appropriate American Standard of Testing and Material (ASTM) methods. Table 1 shows the FCL capabilities:

Gas chromatographs (GC)

laboratory has 5 GC’s that can carry out following analyses as detailed hydrocarbon analysis, analysis and quantification of organic compounds in the sample.

Density meter DMA 3000

used for determination of density, specific gravity of hydrocarbons. Equipment located in the laboratory 205.

Density meter DMA 3000

used for determination of density, specific gravity of hydrocarbons. Equipment located in the laboratory 205.

Viscometer

can measure dynamic viscosity and density and calculate kinematic viscosity of sample at the test temperature. The range of test temperature can vary from -20 °C to +100 °C.

Bomb calorimeter ASTM D240

determine heat of combustion by burning a sample in oxygen bomb calorimeter. Freezing, cloud and pour point analyser – determine cold flow properties of hydrocarbon sample

Bomb calorimeter ASTM D240

determine heat of combustion by burning a sample in oxygen bomb calorimeter. Freezing, cloud and pour point analyser – determine cold flow properties of hydrocarbon sample

Vapor pressure analyzer

used to determine the vapour pressure exerted in vacuum by volatile, liquid hydrocarbons, and hydrocarbon-oxygenate mixtures.

Flash point tester 2

used to determine of the flash point, byPM-93(Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester (Automated Apparatus)) is applicable to distillate fuels (diesel, kerosene , heating oil, turbine fuels), new lubricating oils, and other homogeneous petroleum liquids and applicable to residual fuel oils, cutback residua, used lubricating oils, mixtures of petroleum liquids with solids

Sulphur analyzer

used to determine total sulfur in liquid hydrocarbons, boiling in the range from approximately 25 to 400°C, with viscosities between approximately 0.2 and 20 cSt (mm 2 /S) at room temperature. applicable to naphtha, distillates, engine oil, ethanol, Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME), and engine fuel such as gasoline, oxygen enriched gasoline (ethanol blends, E-85, M-85, RFG), diesel, biodiesel, diesel/biodiesel blends, and jet fuel. Samples containing 1.0 to 8000 mg/kg total sulphur can be analysed.

Automated distillation range

used to  determine atmospheric distillation of petroleum products using a laboratory batch distillation unit to determine quantitatively the boiling range characteristics of products as light and middle distillates, automotive spark-ignition engine fuels with or without oxygenates (see 1), aviation gasoline, aviation turbine fuels, diesel fuels, biodiesel blends up to 20 %, marine fuels, special petroleum spirits, naphtha, white spirits, kerosene, and Grades 1 and 2 burner fuels.

Lubricity meter

used for assessment of the wear aspects of the boundary lubrication properties of aviation turbine fuels on rubbing steel surfaces.

Moisture meter

used for direct determination of water in the range of 10 to 25 000 mg/kg entrained water in petroleum products and hydrocarbons using automated instrumentation

Oxidation stability

used to evaluate the oxidation stability of engine oils for gasoline automotive engines.

Copper Strip Test

used for determination of the corrosiveness to copper of aviation gasoline, aviation turbine fuel, automotive gasoline, cleaners (Stoddard) solvent, kerosene, diesel fuel, distillate fuel oil, lubricating oil, and natural gasoline or other hydrocarbons having a vapor pressure no greater than 124 kPa (18 psi) at 37.8°C.

Octane / Cetane analyzer

used for on – Sit analysis of Octane No. of gasoline.

Fluorescent Indicator Adsorption (FIA)

used for determination of hydrocarbon types over the concentration ranges from 5 to 99 volume % aromatics, 0.3 to 55 volume % olefins, and 1 to 95 volume % saturates in petroleum fractions that distill below 315°C.

Fractional Distillation

used to provide an estimate of the yields of fractions of various boiling ranges. The fractions produced can be analyzed as produced or combined to produce samples for analytical studies, engineering, and product quality evaluations.

ICP Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) PlasmaQuant PQ 9000

Determination of additive elements, wear metals, and contaminants in used and unused lubricating oils and base oils according to ASTM D 5185

Nitrogen generator HPN2C750+CH4
